Promoting the vote

Elections Alberta expanded its social media presence for the 2015 provincial election to encourage more citizens to vote. However, the Fair Elections Act passed in 2014 eliminated Election Canada’s ability to run campaigns that promote voting and political involvement in federal elections. The federal government justified the law by saying that the role of an election agency is to inform citizens where and when to vote and what identification to bring.
