Younger individuals had the highest volunteering participation rates. In 2013, according to the GSS data on giving, volunteering and participating, 66% of youth aged 15 to 19 volunteered. This compared with 48% for individuals aged 35 to 44, who had the second-highest rate of volunteering. Young volunteers, however, tend to contribute fewer hours than their older counterparts.
